Exploring ecological health at Coralie Station.
Dedicated Ecologists Sarah Tune and Dani Lomas embarked on an exciting journey to Coralie Station in Far North Queensland. Their mission was to undertake an Accounting for Nature assessment on this remarkable property, which has been part of a registered Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) Carbon Project since 2020.
Understanding the Accounting for Nature® Framework
The Accounting for Nature® Framework is a pioneering standard for measuring trends in ecological health across various environmental assets, including agricultural soils, native vegetation, and fauna. This Framework is not only cost-effective but also scientifically robust, fully transparent, and verifiable, ensuring the highest level of accuracy and accountability in environmental assessments.
Integrity and Resilience
Coralie Station is a cattle property, spanning approximately 67,606 hectares of native remnant vegetation within the Gulf Plains Bioregion and boasts vibrant ecosystems of low-open woodlands dominated by Melaleuca and Eucalyptus species. The Project Area comprises 13,028 hectares, of mapped Carbon Estimation Areas (CEA) and Future CEA, which will be scientifically measured and managed to ensure integrity and resilience.
The role of Upscale Carbon
Coralie Station’s journey towards sustainability is supported by Upscale Carbon, an organisation that partners with landholders to plan, implement, and manage environmental and agricultural projects. Specialising in carbon farming, Upscale Carbon ensures that the credits generated are returned to the landholder, who can then choose to sell, hold, or use these credits to achieve carbon neutrality. Their range of services includes carbon project development, carbon accounting, ecological surveying, and large-scale revegetation programs, all based on a solid scientific approach.
A collaborative effort for a sustainable future
Upscale Carbon scientifically demonstrate high integrity carbon projects that enhance biodiversity attributes by applying measurable and verified frameworks, to ensure environmental co-benefits that contribute to a sustainable future. The collaborative effort of Upscale Carbon, under the Coralie Nature Initiative, underscores the importance of integrated strategies in environmental management.
