About the account.
The Edithvale is protecting and regenerating 734 hectares of native forest in the Brigalow Belt South bioregion of Queensland which is a nationally recognised biodiversity hotspot. Situated within a State significant bioregional corridor, which forms a wildlife corridor connecting with three Nature Refuges directly to the east and State Forest to the south.
The terrain of the property comprises primarily of ranges on igneous rocks dominated by shrubby eucalyptus woodlands with rocky slopes. The vegetation on the property is comprised of open to shrubby woodlands dominated by narrow-leaved ironbark (Eucalyptus crebra), red bloodwood (Corymbia erythrophloia) and silver-leaved ironbark (Eucalyptus melanophloia) with areas of rosewood (Acacia rhodoxylon) woodlands and isolated patches of semi-evergreen vine thicket ecosystems. Threatened species recorded on the property include Capparis humistrata, squatter pigeon (southern subspecies), powerful owl and central greater glider.
The account is located in the Fitzroy which is a catchment for the Great Barrier Reef. The account includes areas of native vegetation growing along drainage lines of Sandy Creek and Neerkol Creek, both of which flow directly into the Fitzroy River. The Neerkol Creek catchment has a substantial stretch of permanently flowing water with high macrophyte and fish diversity.
The goal is to measure native vegetation condition and quantify change over time. Land management activities are governed by a carbon project registered with the Australian Government’s Clean Energy Regulator. The establishment of environmental accounts is intended to support ongoing management decisions that may include management of grazing, fire, pests and weeds, forest retention and infrastructure upgrades to encourage maintenance and/or improvement in the condition and extent of native vegetation.
