About the account.

The Lochern Avoided Clearing Land Restoration Fund Project is a five-year, $2.8 million collaboration between the Queensland Government and Green Collar. The project is based at Lochern, a livestock grazing enterprise, which is characterised by woodlands dominated by various species of eucalyptus and corymbia. These include narrow-leaved red ironbark (Eucalyptus crebra), grey ironbark (Eucalyptus drepanophylla), dusky-leaved ironbark (Eucalyptus fibrosa), lemon-scented gum (Corymbia citriodora), and spotted gum (Corymbia maculata).

The terrain of the property consists primarily of sub-coastal hills and ranges, which have formed on moderately to strongly deformed and metamorphosed sediments with interbedded volcanics. This landscape provides a diverse and complex environment that supports a range of native vegetation types and ecosystems.

The project aims to protect 1,932 hectares of native vegetation, including state and regionally significant biodiversity corridors that have historically been cleared for grazing. By retaining this native vegetation, the initiative seeks to improve the condition of threatened ecosystems and enhance landscape connectivity. Additionally, it aims to strengthen the financial resilience of the landholder through the diversification of on-farm income.
