About the account.

The Beef and Conservation for the Future Project is a 10 year $2.1 million collaboration between the Queensland Government and GreenCollar. The Project aims to improve water quality in the Burnett River, improve the extent and condition of threatened ecosystems and threatened species habitat, improve landscape connectivity and demonstrate the financial and health benefits that can come from a diversified on-farm income.

The property is situated at the headwaters of the Burnett River, near Monto in Queensland. Approximately half of the property lies within the crater of a prehistoric volcano, providing unique geology and an ecosystem thriving on rich soils and above average rainfall. The landholders are passionate about raising cattle in a low-stress, natural environment, and recognise the vital role that trees play in producing high quality beef. It is intended that this project will be utilised as a case study of the mutually beneficial outcomes from managing conservation, carbon and profitable beef production harmoniously.

Management activities under this project will be informed by the establishment of Environmental Accounts, and will include rotational grazing and infrastructure upgrades to spread grazing pressure to encourage improvements in the condition and extent of native vegetation communities.
