Significant outcomes.

The Econd® score representing the project level koala population was much lower than anticipated. While it was expected that a Human Induced Regeneration project would not support koala activity in the early stages of the project, the Avoided Clearing project which represents 61% of the Environmental Account project area could support greater koala activity.

Limitations & disclosures.

Protocol - The Spot Assessment Technique (SAT) provides a standardised measure of koala activity but should not be interpreted as a definitive measure of presence or absence of koalas at a site. It is based on a snapshot of koala activity levels at a single point in time and to quantify the interannual variation repeat surveys will be conducted.

Sampling Intensity - In this assessment, fewer than 30 suitable trees were currently available within the 50 x 50m search area for some sites. This was particularly the case for sites within clearing history class designated as ‘regrowth’
