About the account.

The Mt Razorback property is located in the Flinders Lofty Block bioregion with the junction of two sub-regions - Olary Spur and Broughton - occurring on the property. As such, the property can be considered to occur in ecologically transitional country, where the diversity of birds and other biota is often maximised.

The property rises steeply from flatter cropped country in the west of the property (Broughton subregion) into the locally prominent Mt Bryan range in the east (Olary Spur). This topography produces a rainfall gradient across the property, with the eastern parts averaging well over 500 mm annually, while the lower parts average about 450 mm annually.

The uplands are well vegetated by South Australian blue gum grassy woodland of varying condition. In total, these woodlands cover about a third of the property, providing important connecting habitat between the hills and plains. This habitat is used by many bird species, including striated pardalote and red-capped robin. The addition of more shrubs and trees (e.g. as fenceline shelterbelts) would further enhance the ecological value of the property.

About the landholders.

They feel fortunate to have a diverse range of land types within their holding and are conscious of preserving the planet and animal species that harbour Mt Razorback whilst maintaining a viable commercial business.
